JULY CULINARY SERVICE BRANCH (CSB) UPDATE

1. CSA Alameda – Symposium and Ribbon Cutting 25-29 September – 87 days away! SPL has continue to make major equipment investments at CSA Alameda to make sure that the galley is in the best operational condition possible. We will only be at initial operating capability at the ribbon cutting. We expect more CSs to arrive in the 9 months after opening. This is really going to improve cutter support in PACAREA and seriously improve food quality on Base Alameda.

2. Ashore Major Equipment Update – SPL continues to seek out funding for major equipment replacement at ashore units. We’ve sent out messages to FSOs asking for their needs. CSC Michael Sukohl is the lead for this at SPL. Send him a email with your major equipment needs. We are working to replace inoperable and poor condition equipment and need to know which units have a need. We can also help transfer new or lightly used equipment from units that somehow have extra equipment on hand.

3. Culinary Support Branch (CSB) – We’ve got three members onboard and will have our last two members arriving in July. All members have an assigned area of responsibility and are available to units who need help. In addition, units can also reach out to SPL via the team inbox (SPL@uscg.mil)

4. Culinary Support Branch – CSB is working with the school house in Petaluma to intro CSB to graduating members of both Perpetual and PVA C- schools.

5. DLA Support – CSCS Ester has been supporting CSCS McPhersons transition from the Coast Guard and is working with FSOs who needs DLA support. FSOs need to check all their ordering points in STORESWeb BEFORE deploying. FSOs need to ensure they have the correct ordering points and that they are active.

6. Culinary Support Activity (CSA) – The Culinary Support Activity concept has really attracted interest from the HS community and beyond because of the capability it provides. There is a Talent Management Task Force (TMX-TF) looking at how to improve a number of areas relating to supporting not only rating capabilities but member development as well. The matured CSA concept fits into the major areas of how the Coast Guard can do a better job in supporting members and ultimately the mission.

7. Deployable Feeding Capability – SPL has developed a concept for a deployable feeding capability that can be used in contingencies. We are hoping to receive some funding for this so that it can be prototyped. It will provide a reliable way to feed our responders during those short 3-10 day windows after hurricanes or disasters. In addition they will be easily transportable to anywhere there is a need.

8. Hurricane Season – Reminder to all FSOs in the usual Hurricane Impact areas. Make sure you have a plan and consider keeping 3-5 days of shelf stable stores that you can prepare for the crew. If your unit is impacted beyond 3-5 days then the impact is usually significant and galley is inoperable.

9. The Culinary Support Branch has a public Microsoft team’s section for gathering information and asking questions and receive answers in an official capacity ( https://dod.teams.microsoft.us/l/team/19%3adod%3a0564fe4298584b0abbc760aabbbd7371%40thread.tacv2/conversations?groupId=1acf229d-4e21-4ec2-9131-339306ed627a&tenantId=369ba0d5-02cb-4d2f-94fd-9212cc24b78c )
